Elementor is one of the most popular WordPress page builder. It offers FontAwsome icons to use but in most projects, you need only some icons so its useless to use the whole FontAwsome library it will only add unnecessary CSS to your site.
Elementor has an option for using custom icons. Elementors official youtube channel has a video on it you can check it here.
Unable to upload custom icons to Elementor?
Just now when I was working on my sites and I tried to upload a few Fontello icons to my website (the top search icon on my site) I was unable to upload the icons. First, I thought it happened because of a conflict with another plugin. So I deactivated all the plugins except Elementor and Elementor Pro, Even after that, I was unable to upload my Fontello icons zip file.
If you are facing the same problem as I mentioned above here is the solution.
The Problem!
It’s happening because your Webhosting does not have the zip extension enable. To confirm if your site has the zip extension enable or not try this.
- Login to your WordPress admin.
- Elementor >System Info

As you can see in the above image mine is enabled (I had to enable it manually), Yours should be saying no and that’s why you are unable to upload the custom font zip file.
FYI if your ZIP Installed is saying yes as in my above image and still you are unable to upload a custom icon zip in Elementor you should watch this video to make sure you have done everything correctly.
The Solution!
You have to enable the zip extension module in your C-panel.
- Login to your C-panel.
- Search Select PHP Version in the top search bar and select it.
- Scroll down and look for zip extension and enable it.

Now Login to WordPress and go to Elementor >System Info. It will show you Zip Installed: Yes like my above image. (FIG-01)
That’s it now if you try to upload your Fontello zip it should be working. Hope this helped you. Stay safe and spread kindness. 😀
I followed your instruction and enabled .zip in elementor, I created svg icons, upload to fontastic, downloaded the zip, but elementor still says “sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons”.
Hey, Have you tried using fontello.com? By default WordPress does not allow svg images for security reason. You can upload your svg icon in fontello.com and download the zip file it will work.
